The post Greek Islands Travel Guide: Santorini, Mykonos & Naxos appeared first on laurenmariefair.com.

A few weeks ago, we traveled to the Greek Islands! Greece has a special place in my heart, as I lived in Greece for study abroad years ago in college. I haven’t been back since, and it was Tim’s first time! With borders finally open and European weddings to shoot, we decided to go with our good friends for a few days before we headed to France for a wedding. Here’s a little recap of where we stayed, ate, and explored on three Greek Islands: Santorini, Mykonos & Naxos!

First of all, we had to do our research on what the current travel restrictions were, and what we needed to bring with us before boarding our flights to Greece. At the time of our trip (July 2021), we needed to fill out a Passenger Locator Form anytime up until 48 hours before our trip. Once they received it, the Greek government emailed us a QR code that we needed to have scanned at the airport when checking in for our flight. Use THIS website for all the current, most up to date information on traveling to Greece – since things change rapidly! The rules currently look the same as when we traveled: you just need to present either your vaccination card OR a fresh negative PCR test. You do not need to be vaccinated to travel to Greece at this time. Our checkin process with Swiss Air / United was pretty straightforward and we had no issues with checking in and presenting our QR code and vaccination cards!

We took an overnight flight via Swiss Air Business Class to Santorini (thanks points!), with a layover in Zurich. Our layover and customs walkthrough were uneventful since we had everything in order and we had no issues there either. Once we finally landed at sunset in Santorini, we were SO excited! The approach to the little airport is so beautiful. Let’s talk about Santorini first!

When you think of the Greek Islands, you probably picture Santorini first! Impossibly beautiful whitewashed cliff villages, blue domed churches, bright blue water, and flowers everywhere. Santorini is the true postcard version of Greece and it really is just as beautiful in real life! We stayed just outside Oia, the most famous town. We liked where we stayed as we were close enough to town for easy access for dinners, walking around, etc. but just far enough that our villa was totally private and we weren’t around other tourists. HERE is a link to our villa complex that we stayed in and split with our friends Erica & Nick! And HERE is my Airbnb saved list for Santorini for more options to browse through! (We were looking only at 2 bedroom spots with private pools for what we needed – two pregnant girls / two couples! Haha) Santorini is definitely the priciest island and to stay very close to town, have a private pool, etc you will definitely pay a bit more – but it’s very much worth it! These two photos below are our villa and the insane view right from our pool.

Make sure you check out both towns, Oia and Fira, for sunset / exploring! They’re the gorgeous whitewashed, cliffy villages with picturesque views, shops and restaurants everywhere you look. One of our favorite spots to eat ended up being this very vibey beach club outside of the main tourist areas called Yalos – it’s got great music, delicious healthy food & beach beds! Ammoudi Fish Tavern is another popular & photogenic dinner spot. Honestly, you can walk around anywhere at night in Oia and find a delicious dinner spot! There are tons of blog posts out there with food & restaurant recommendations specifically.
Our daily agenda in Santorini looked like this: take the car into town, find delicious breakfast somewhere with a view, and walk the streets for the morning exploring the cute towns and villages. After grabbing lunch, we’d head back to our villa to enjoy some relaxation & pool time in the hottest part of the day. The heat is no joke in mid July in Santorini, so I’d say choosing an Airbnb or hotel with a pool is an absolute must! (Especially if you’ve got two pregnant girls!). We’d explore a new location for sunset, take some photos, and then find dinner in Oia! And then end the night with gelato. Just wander around the towns, explore the area and ENJOY! The Red Beach, Ammoudi Bay , Oia Castle for sunset, and Fira are great spots to explore too. If you have time, rent a boat and cruise around the island! We didn’t have a lot of time on Santorini this time (just 2 days) before heading to Naxos – here’s a little photo roundup from Santorini!

Then, we headed to Naxos! There are a few different ways to get between the islands, but the easiest / least expensive is to take the regular ferry boats between the islands! We booked a ferry time with 4 tickets and wow, I had forgotten how crazy the experience is! We took a cab to the Santorini port, waited in line and then the port managers start yelling for everyone to run onto the boat (they’re mini cruise ships – huge boats!). By the time the last few people were getting on board, the back of the boat ramp was literally lifting back off the boat dock as the boat pulled away! Sirens were blaring and it’s just this comically, unnecessarily dramatic experience with your luggage and everyone hustling you together. Just try to be at the front of the line! The ferry boats themselves are super nice, with lots of nice seating and bars/ eating areas, as well as wifi.
After our dramatic ferry experience, we landed right in Chora Town, Naxos! The old town is absolutely stunning and we booked a car right at Hertz in the port area, so we could walk right to it. We picked up our car and headed to our next accommodation – our favorite one! We stayed at the INCREDIBLE Virtu Suites, set right on Agios Prokopios Beach. It was easily one of my favorite hotels I’ve ever experienced in Europe, and I couldn’t recommend it more highly!

Exploring Naxos:
We didn’t know too much about Naxos before arrival, other than that it looked super pretty and it was a perfect halfway island between Santorini & Mykonos. We were all completely blown away by how incredible Naxos was and it was truly such a laid-back, beautiful and understated island with everything to offer! It feels like an undiscovered Mykonos with stylish boutique hotels and restaurants mixed in with traditional villages and tavernas. A few spots we loved: NOMAD for sunset dinner & drinks, but you can’t go wrong with anywhere along the entire stretch of beach that Nomad is located on. Yucca, Tortuga Beach Bar & Restaurant, Yazoo, Nikos & Maria Restaurant, Kahlua Beach Bar & Restaurant, and La Trattoria are all amazing options nearby to Virtu Suites. We also ate breakfast at our hotel every day (it’s included!) and also lunch one day, and everything was DELICIOUS. The macrame, light wood & plant filled decor also just spoke to my soul

We spent some time lounging by the pool, enjoying our beautiful hotel & rooms, and the gorgeous beach right in front of our hotel! We also explored multiple smaller villages and loved seeing the authentic / historic side of this ancient island. The main town, Chora, is also absolutely stunning & the old town part of it is worth getting lost in! The two other villages we explored were Chalkio & Apiranthos (which we just did a driveby because it was super small / didn’t seem worth it as much.) We ate lunch that day up at the Rotonda Bar & Restaurant which has an incredible view over the entire island. We also explored Chora and the old town part of the capital city is absolutely beautiful, and so charming. Lots of bougainvilla-lined cafes by the water, whitewashed buildings, beautiful boats and traditional shops! Spend some time wandering through the streets and you’ll come across so many gorgeous little photo opps and will get a good sense for the town!

We truly did not want to leave Naxos, but it was time to head to our final island destination – Mykonos! We used FerryHopper to book our ferry tickets once again. Again, the experience boarding the ship was chaotic and interesting to say the least – but we made it on the boat just fine! It was delayed and we had a bit of an issue finding our car rental dropoff contact once we arrived in Mykonos after the 45 minute ride, so it was almost 4 pm and we still hadn’t eaten lunch so that became the priority. We checked into our Airbnb and were actually told we’d been upgraded to a slightly different one in the same complex! The views were absolutely beautiful. Once we dropped our bags, we were all SO hungry that we just put in the closest beac club to our Airbnb on Google Maps and it ended up being delicious and a pretty good introduction to Mykonos’s whole vibe! We ended up at Kalua Beach Bar & Restaurant and it is quite the scene. Mykonos is very much known for its party scene, and there are lots of European travelers lounging, dancing to the music and enjoying themselves. We took a dip in the ocean on the beautiful beach there after finally eating and the water felt so good (the Greek islands are crazy hot in July!). Pretty sure we were the only two pregnant girls at the beach club, haha! The 4 of us determined that one beach club was enough for us after that (even though the food and vibe was amazing!) and we headed back to the villa to pick up some fruit & snacks and lounge by our pool after the travel day.

Our first night in Mykonos we went to the Sunset Bar 180 – we decided to splurge and book a table for sunset / dinner. The views, vibes and drinks were all incredible. The service wasn’t great so I wouldn’t recommend staying for dinner, but the aesthetic is unmatched! It has a beautiful view over Old Town Mykonos and a perfect sunset view.

The next day in Mykonos, we explored the Old Town, got brunch by the water, and found so many incredible little nooks and crannies to explore. Old Town Mykonos is absolutely beautiful, with whitewashed walls and pathways, flowers everywhere, charming seaside cafes and restaurants, and of course, the famous windmills. Explore, wander around and get lost here! We ate dinner later by the water as well – just wander and pick whichever cafe or restaurant suits your fancy here in Old Town! There is definitely a way to do Mykonos that involves expensive restaurant reservations, beach club reservations and more, but we took a more laid back approach and it was the right fit for us!! Brunch recommendation with great vibes and water views: Mosaic, right in Old Town!
We just had the two days in Mykonos, so we’d love to come back and explore more! The next morning we were off with a 6 am flight to Paris, so that wraps up my guide to these three beautiful Greek Islands. I hope you enjoyed it, and we already can’t wait to go back!

A few weeks ago, we had our dream baby shower! Tim and I love the beach and spend all of our free time in the summers in Ocean City, NJ – so we decided to throw a nontraditional beach party baby shower in our favorite summer spot! The vision was very soft, neutral, calming and bohemian inspired, with a luxe picnic feel. Enter the talented Ali of South Jersey Picnic Co, who helped us execute the vision so beautifully with her amazing luxury pop-up picnics. A special thanks to Ali, as well as Blair of Gilded Lily Events, who ran the day flawlessly. Another special thank you to Erica & Nick of Blushing Fields Flower Farm who created the beautiful floral arch and centerpieces you see – we were obsessed with them! We loved getting to celebrate our little boy with all our loved ones and are so grateful for such a beautiful day. Thank you also to A Cookie for Each Hand for our sweet custom beachy cookies, too! I’ve listed out all our sources at the bottom of the post in case it inspires you to throw your own summer soiree on the beach! We lucked out with the weather, too – it was perfectly cloudy and breezy for the hottest part of the day, and then we got a beautiful sunset as the day ended. We’re so grateful to all of our loved ones who made the trek down to celebrate with us and give us so many beautiful and thoughtful gifts! Now…we just wait on bebe’s arrival!

Nantucket is a tiny island about 30 miles off the coast of Cape Cod, with windy beaches, picturesque lighthouses, stunning sunsets, fresh seafood, shingled homes, and FLOWERS covering every surface of every home and building! We didn’t even rent a car for our time on the island – we rented scooters and had the best time zipping around the island via scooter! The few times it sprinkled rain (the weather is totally unpredictable on the island!), we easily caught a cab to take us to dinner. Overall – I think scooters are the most fun way to get around and there’s tons of places right in town you can walk up to and rent them from.

WHERE TO STAY IN NANTUCKET
There’s so many charming boutique hotels and amazing Airbnb / house rental options in Nantucket, it can be overwhelming! For our first visit, we chose to stay right in the downtown Historic District at the very chic Greydon House. This little boutique hotel was a perfect home base and I really loved the super chic tiled bathroom! Here’s a list of the most charming hotels which we also considered:
White Elephant Hotel
Hotel Pippa
21 Broad
Cliff Lodge
The Cottages & Lofts
The Wauwinet
Also, vacation homes are an amazing option for groups! VRBO and Airbnb are my two favorite sites to book through.

HELPFUL INFO ABOUT NANTUCKET’S TOWN & AREAS
If you arrive by ferry, you can come via two ferry lines from Hyannis, MA: the Hy-Line or the Steamship Authority. The Hy-Line is a quicker one hour ferry that cannot accommodate cars, and the Steamship Authority is a slower 2.5 hour ferry ride that can take cars on. Book early if you hope to bring a car or rent a car – we booked our ferry tickets too late and were not able to have a car (and every car on the island was sold out!). The ferry is lovely and a pretty fun way to get to the island! You can also fly directly to Nantucket Island via Jetblue from JFK airport – which I’ll do next time I think, as the drive to the ferry plus the ferry makes it an 8 hour journey for us! The ferry will deposit you right in Nantucket’s Old Town, a convenient walk away from any of the main hotels in Nantucket’s Town area. There are tons of restaurants, shops, car and scooter rental places within steps of your arrival from the ferry!

As far as areas of Nantucket – the Town is the main area, for sure! There are so many gorgeous, charming homes and hotels, restaurants and shops all within Nantucket town’s charming cobblestone streets. Other areas to explore, as per Travel & Leisure:
Downtown: Downtown Nantucket, also referred to as Town or Brand Point, is centrally located near Children’s Beach on the northern side of the island next to the Nantucket cliffs. Here, you’ll find classic grey wood-shingled homes, many of which have been converted into boutiques on Main Street. You’ll also find a high concentration of restaurants, ice cream and coffee shops, and souvenir stores.
Madaket: The western edge of Nantucket is known as Madaket. Six miles from town, Madaket is known for seemingly never-ending beaches and appeals to families keen on some tide pool exploration at Smith Point. You’ll catch the best sunsets of your trip in Madaket.
Sconset: On the opposite side of the island from Madaket is Sconset. Sconset, which is actually shortened from its full name Siasconset, is the neighborhood on the east side of Nantucket. Sconset is lined with restaurants and shops, and the winding streets are as idyllic as they come. The Sconset Bluff Walk was one of my FAVORITE things to do!
Cisco: On the southern side of the island, Cisco is a surfing neighborhood dominated by locals and home to one of the best beaches on Nantucket: Cisco Beach. You’ll also find Cisco Brewers and Bartlett’s Farm here and a relatively new bike path to explore.
Surfside/Tom Nevers: On the southern side of the island, Surfside is nestled between Sconset and Cisco. The area is home to lifeguarded beaches (perfect for families) and the inviting Surfside bike path.

WHAT TO DO IN NANTUCKET
Sconset Bluff Walk:
One of my favorite days! We took the scooters up to beautiful Sconset and hiked the Bluff Walk. It’s a narrow path set up on a bluff that is a grassy path in the backyards of some of the most spectacular homes in Nantucket. Perfect if you love flowers, ocean views, peeping at stunning homes and getting in some exercise at the same time!
Bike or Scooter the Island:
We rented scooters in town and loved bopping around the island to different beaches and areas to explore! If you’re up for biking the 14 miles of Nantucket’s coastline, it’s an amazing workout and there’s bike paths to all the main neighborhoods and beaches.
Visit Bartlett’s Farm
A charming market & farm kitchen with fresh produce, food & drinks.
Spend a day (or 7) at the Beach
There are many beautiful wild beaches on Nantucket. There’s Children’s Beach on the north side of the island, and Cisco Beach on the southern side. Jetties Beach is one of the locals’ favorite beaches, situated right next to Galley Beach and the scenic Nantucket Cliffs.
Stop at Cisco’s Brewers
A favorite among Nantucket locals, Cisco Brewers is known for their craft beer and spirits made on the island. While they now have locations across New England, it all started at their sprawling outdoor space on Bartlett Farm Road. Hang outdoors or in the taproom, sampling brews and enjoying live music.

Where to Eat in Nantucket
Breakfast or Brunch / Lunch: Island Kitchen, Lemonpress, Island Provisions, Surfshack Taco Truck, Handlebar Cafe, Downyflake – there are a myriad of breakfast spots in town, so take your pick! Summer House Hotel also had lovely poolside seating for lunch one day in Sconset.
Dinner: My favorite meal of the trip (pictured above!) was Galley Beach. I called weeks in advance to get a beachfront reservation and we had the best lobster, delicious drinks and a killer sunset with vibey music. It feels like the French Riviera! Also great: Club Car, Mille’s (in Madaket, worth the drive!), Cisco Brewery for the food trucks, Cru for lobster rolls on the wharf in town, Brant Point Grille, Oath Pizza, Brotherhood of Thieves.
Ice Cream: The Juice Bar, hands-down. We went every single day we were in Nantucket for some of the freshest, most creative ice cream you’ll ever eat!

WHAT TO WEAR IN NANTUCKET
Honestly? Nantucket’s a chic island, but a casual one. The weather is unpredictable and never really hot-hot, even in July or August (we were there in late July.) I never wore a pair of heels, although a chic pair of natural wedges would fit nicely at some dinner spots. Think breezy fabrics, and I wore a lot of linen dresses and tops accented with woven accessories like hats & belts. Definitely bring a very warm sweater, light rain jacket, and pants for dinner most nights, as it can get chilly later in the evenings!

Madewell jeans are some of my favorites and are in the top two places I love my denim from! They’re currently running a sale so I thought I’d share some of the reasons why I love their jeans.
HERE’S the pair I’m wearing!
First of all – they have “magic pockets” which hold you in – but in a comfortable, stretchy way that somehow lifts and smooths at the same time! (Seems like magic to me!)

Secondly – they never ever stretch out! You know how sometimes you buy a pair of jeans, they fit perfectly, and by the end of a day or two, they’re a little saggy? That’s never the case with Madewell, which I appreciate so much. The fit is perfectly comfortable & relaxed yet supportive, and somehow stays that way through daily wear!
Third – I like true denim that has that luxuriously soft but “real” look to it. There’s the perfect amount of distressing and luxe details on Madewell denim that makes their jeans look truly high end, but for a fraction of the price of true luxury jean brands.

Linking all my favorite Madewell jeans (most of which I own & absolutely LOVE) here!

I love Paris – no surprise there! I’m typically in Paris a few times a year, for work or pleasure, and thought it was about time to compile a list of some of my favorites. We love to stay in the the gorgeous, charming neighborhood of Saint-Germain-des-Pres. It’s perfectly situated to be close to the fun restaurants, cafes and shops of the area. I also love the 2nd Arrondisement for the beautiful luxurious apartments and Eiffel Tower views! I’ve also stayed right by the Palais Royale / Jardin de Tuileries and it’s an amazing central location as well. A few must-visits when you’re in Paris:

The artsy, hilly neighborhood of Montmarte & Sacré-Coeur
Saint-Germain-des-Pres neighborhood
Palais Royal
Trocadero Platform at sunrise or in the evenings to watch the Eiffel Tower sparkle
Cathedral Notre-Dame (We were actually there last spring for the fire – it was a crazy sight to see. Whenever it opens back up – it’s worth a visit!)
Cathedral Notre-Dame
Rue Cremieux (Rainbow Row, the most charming and photogenic street!)
Tuileries Garden
The Louvre
Jardin de Luxembourg
Shop at Sezane (my favorite!)
Le Maison Rose
Marais neighborhood
Musee d’Orsay for the Impressionist floor alone
Explore the Paris Flea Market

Le Maison Rose
Pink Mamma
Cafe de Flore
Cafe Bonaparte
Hemingway Bar at the Ritz
Anywhere in the Latin Quarter
Holybelly Cafe
LouLou for healthy acai bowls
Le Train Bleu
Anywhere on this list

I’ve become somewhat obsessed with the best places to stay in Paris. There’s an overwhelming amount of options, but I’ve narrowed it down to the few I’ve stayed in that I personally LOVE and most importantly – have balconies! For me – having a balcony in Paris is just an essential part of experiencing a stay here.
Residence Charles Floquet – the best view of the Eiffel Tower ever, and most beautiful apartment rental.
K+K Hôtel Cayré Saint Germain des Prés
Best Western Premier Kapital Opera
Holiday Inn Paris – Notre Dame
Hotel des Saints-Peres – Esprit de France

I hope you enjoyed this little taste of Paris, and it can inspire you for a future trip!

Affectionately known as “30A,” this magical series of charming European-inspired beach towns transport you to Santorini – right here in the USA!

In spring of 2020, we, along with the rest of the world, had our entire spring and summer’s worth of travel and weddings in Europe canceled or postponed! When it came time for our 9th wedding anniversary, we were so ready for a recharge and an escape and wanted to keep it local to the US – of course! We’re so lucky to live in the USA with such beautiful locations right here on our East Coast. 2020 became the summer of roadtrips and little domestic trips, and finding all the beautiful, European inspired gems here on our home turf! I had always wanted to check out Alys Beach & Rosemary Beach after seeing photos online of the beautiful aesthetic, and as a bonus – we have friends who live not far away! We planned a little getaway and I’m so happy to share that this beautiful stretch of the Florida Panhandle did not disappoint! Alys Beach has to be the prettiest beachfront community in America, and with Tim being a builder and me, a design-living photographer…we were in heaven just biking around taking in all the stunning architecture! We also got to meet up with one of my very favorite photographer friends, KT Merry, to take the beautiful photos of Tim & I that you see below as well! It was such a gift to be able to have KT’s incredible eye capturing us in such a beautiful place. Without futher ado…here’s my Guide to 30A, and a few of my favorite anniversary photos captured by KT!

First of all, the term 30A refers to the name of the highway that runs along the beach towns in this section of Florida! These towns are dotted along 30A:
Rosemary Beach
Alys Beach
Watercolor
Seacrest
Seaside
Santa Rosa
Grayton
We flew into Panama City (ECP) which is the closest to Rosemary at about 25 minutes drive away. Pensacola Airport is further but also another option to travel in to! Ft. Walton (VPS) is another option that for us didn’t have good flight options – but worth checking into depending on where you’re coming from. Definitely rent a car – preferably a convertible or Jeep! – to travel up and down the coastline as there’s so many cute towns to explore that are beyond biking distance. Rosemary and Alys are only a mile apart and there’s a nice wide bike path in between, so we chose to base ourselves here!

We chose to stay in Rosemary Beach as there was a beautiful small boutique hotel there I had fell in love with online (we picked the dates of our trip based on its availability!) called The Pearl. I couldn’t recommend it more highly – it was BEAUTIFUL and in the most perfect location imaginable, right on the European cobblestone main street in Rosemary! It has free bikes for their guests, a gorgeous little rooftop restaurant & bar with tapas and cocktails, and a beautiful Grecian-style pool area. We loved utilizing the free bikes and of course, its beachfront location couldn’t be beat. The hotel also has a beautiful beach club with complimentary lounge chairs, umbrellas, and drink services, which was such a nice bonus as many hotels charge extra for this. Our room had a balcony with a partial ocean view and a view right out onto the very cute main street. This is a better hotel for couples than families as kids are not allowed in the pool area. Two other options I’d suggest as options: The Watercolor Resort, and a House Rental via VRBO or Airbnb!

The beach, of course! The beaches here are world class…stunning crystal clear turquoise-green water, white soft sand, and wide open beaches. Perfect for social distancing!
Bike around the beach towns & communities! We spent an entire morning just biking from Rosemary to Alys and looking at the ridiculously beautiful, all-white, modern Grecian designed homes and common squares here. Easily one of the prettiest beach towns in America, and SO bike friendly! Definitely rent bikes for the week if you’re staying at a house rental! Browse the Small Towns: Outpost was a favorite of mine, as well as OKO Lifestyle. A few more: Seaside Style, 30 Avenue, and The Hub.
Water Sports: Paddleboarding is popular here! Boating, snorkeling, and of course, swimming.
Rent a convertible or Jeep and cruise up and down the coast exploring the other towns! We loved the charming town of Seaside especially – it’s where they filmed The Truman Show, fun fact! So it actually kind of looks like a “small town” movie set.

George’s at Alys Beach for a nice dinner out
Cowgirl Kitchen for tacos
La Crema
Sugar Shak
30Avenue
Taco Bar
Seaside’s Food Trucks: The Meltdown (grilled cheese!) and Barefoot BBQ. Both in Airstreams!
Havana at the Pearl: We ate Cuban food here for dinner the first day we arrived and the food was absolutely amazing! Get a mojito.
La Crema in Rosemary
The Pearl Hotel Rooftop Bar
Donut Hole, Charlie’s Donut Truck or Five Daughters Bakery Airstream
Fonville Press (really loved breakfast here!)
Black Bear Bread Co (we missed this one but have heard it’s amazing!)
Chiringo
Caliza Restaurant (in the Moroccan inspired building in Alys Beach’s pool area)

…because KT captured us in this beautiful location perfectly!
